Questions for Weds. 12/30/09

Hi Gals,
SOOOOOO sorry it has taken me so long to post these questions. Christmas is a busy time at the church and it's my first year on the job - hey no excuses! I'll be better.

Review in your mind for a few minutes what Vashti was asked to do & how that may have made her feel. Remember our discussion of how you might feel in that situation.

Read 1:9-22 over a few times.

What was Vashti doing when she was summoned by the king?

What was the king doing when he decided to summon Vashti?

What is a eunuch? (look it up in a dictionary)

How many eunuchs were there? Why so many?

What was Xerxes response to Esther's refusal to appear?

Who did Xerxes consult?

What was their biggest complaint about the Queen's actions?

What does this tell you about this society and men and women in it?

What was their solution to the problem? Detail it out - hint 5 parts.

God Bless gals! What time can you come down to the church on Wednesday? Let me know.

  1. Sorry to take so long to post this. Things have been... hectic.
She was having a banquet with all of the women

He was feasting and in "high spirits".

a castrated man placed in charge of a harem or employed as a chamberlain in a palace

There were 7 probably because he had a lot of things he needed typically?

His wise advisers that knew the Persian laws/customs.

That she did not do what he wanted her to do, that she did not "respect" him.

That women were not very respected in this time. What they said and did meant nothing and the men had all the power.

    Consulted his advisors
Issued a written decree (that banished her)
    Choose another queen
Sent letters to all parts of the empire
